Tuesday's Meeting With Mr. Shaw - After Thoughts...

So, what did everyone think of the meeting tonight at Old Main? I left with more questions than answers even though Mr. Shaw was very open and forthright about the re-development project (thank you Mr. Shaw).

Here are some of the questions I heard in the meeting along with my thoughts. I hope to get some discussion going here…

    1. How real is the prospect of a Maywood access road? I got the feeling the road is being considered and that the only thing that wasn’t known was how the road was going to be 'sold' to the Northmoor residents and if they would buy the explanation.
    2. Does anyone know the legal requirements, if any, which the Fire Marshall or others might cite as a reason for putting in an auxiliary access road? There has been a lot of talk about “Public Safety Issues”. As some have pointed out there will be a lower population density after the re-development so the argument that a road need to be built does not seem to make sense. It seems to me a fire engine or patrol car responding to an emergency at Barat Woods would be better off accessing the development from Sheridan Rd rather than crossing the RR tracks at Ryan Place (assuming the gate is not down), winding around Washington Road, taking the hairpin turn onto Maywood and then dodging strollers, skateboarders, children, parents and pets as they race to the emergency.Surprise [:O]
    3. Speaking of Maywood, is it destined to be ripped up again for new utilities or to make it wider?
    4. Is the small forest at the south end of South Park doomed? Looking at the Barat Campus from the air (http://tinyurl.com/ndfjm) I’m hard pressed to see how one can fit 67 homes with even a small yard on the land without developing the that small forest/wetland.
    5. What do you think of the roads inside of a development as large as this being private? Is this to keep people in or keep people out? Are there other ‘gated communities’ Lake Forest?
    6. Finally, does anyone know how this project is being financed and who the investors are? Can anyone find out?

Again, it was nice to see everyone. I look forward to hearing from all of you.
